The structure of the 2.92mm rf coaxial connectors is similar to that of the 3.5mm rf coaxial connectorsconnector, but it is smaller, allowing the operating frequency to 46GHz, and its inner conductor size is 0.05 inches (1.27mm) the same as SMA. The 2.92mm coaxial rf connector was first developed by Maury Microwave (Type MPC-3). There are K-type, KMC-type, WMP4-type, etc., which are developed by other companies. The K-type coaxial connector was developed by Wiltron in 1983, and it is compatible with SMA, 3.5mm rf coaxial connectors, and WSMA connectors. The heart of the K-type coaxial connector is its transition device, which uses a glass insulator to realize the rigid transition from the coaxial connector to the microstrip circuit, which ensures that the circuit will not be damaged when the connector is replaced or repaired.             

The reliability of millimeter wave coaxial connectors is affected by the insertion and extraction force, the strength of the outer conductor, the stress relief during mating, and the concentricity during mating. K-type connection has good performance in these aspects. Under normal conditions, the insertion and extraction force of the K-type coaxial connector is 0.5 pounds (2.22N) and the SMA is three times that. The wall thickness of the K-type outer conductor is four times that of SMA, and its reliability is equivalent to 30 times that of SMA, which has been confirmed by experiments. The test shows that the electrical performance of the K-type coaxial connector hardly changes after 10,000 times of plugging and unplugging. It is particularly suitable for use on systems and test instruments.
